Overview

This project was a website design and build for Dr. Wesley Payne McClendon, a U.S.-based leadership strategist. His program focuses on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), offering project leaders a structured 90-minute, 5-step framework to improve talent attraction, staff retention, productivity, and promotion. I designed and developed this website while working at Cultural Infusion as a UX Designer, delivering the project through WordPress to ensure both flexibility and long-term maintainability.

Aim

The primary goal of the project was to create a minimal yet animated website that effectively sold Dr. McClendon’s program while introducing his expertise and professional background. The site needed to strike a balance between authority and approachability, using visual storytelling to communicate the program’s impact in a clear and engaging way.

Process & Methodologies

I began by exploring the client’s vision for a minimal and modern website that felt dynamic but not overwhelming. Drawing from his program’s themes of clarity, assessment, and development, I designed a typographic layout emphasizing bold statements and clean negative space. To highlight the program’s core pillars, I used geometric shapes, restrained use of color, and purposeful animations that guided users through the narrative.

Once the design direction was established, I translated it into WordPress, structuring the site so the client could update content independently. Careful attention was given to scalability, ensuring sections like the program overview, Dr. McClendon’s biography, and calls to action were clear, responsive, and accessible. Animations were kept subtle and intentional, reinforcing the messaging rather than distracting from it.
